BABA ‘aeon’ Exhibition digest

Category : news

The exhibition ‘aeon’ is comprised of works by Acci Baba, a Japanese artist who has in recent years received international recognition in the field of the visual arts. This solo exhibition presents his paintings and sculptures created during the past 8 years in Berlin, Germany.

Baba conveys the perception of universal principles recognised in our boundless space and time. He focuses on symbolical translations of basic laws found in the wisdom of the East and the West, creating a personal interpretation to unfold the storyline of the ancient and the present. His conception encompasses bipolar elements of philosophy such as ‘alpha and omega’, ‘tangible and intangible’, ‘existence and nonexistence’, ‘void and infinity’, ‘ephemerality and aeon’. Among the maxima and minima of the phenomenon, Baba places his art on the threshold of cognition; a moment of resonance amid the chaos.

Paintings have been created using a stencil technique, carefully cut to maintain the improvisational essence of the visual output. Points and lines, conceived as basic dimensional elements give a characteristic of a work in flux, adopting dynamic movement into the fragile balance of his compositions. Extending these forms of expression into extra dimensions, Baba created a wooden sculpture using a single stroke structure without beginning or end. Recent works involve creating films along with the works, adding the dimension of ‘time’ to explain his narrative of conceptual art.

Baba believes art is not only a way of expression but a method of communication. It is the signature of our existence that transcends message over the aeons. He refers to a quote from Swiss psychologist C.G Jung’s book;

“I do not regard the symbol as an allegory or sign, but take it in its proper sense as the best possible way of describing and formulating an object that is not completely knowable.”
( -’Aion’, Carl Gustav Jung)
